Construction
The construction sector can take some positives from the challenging lockdown period.
Unlike many, it was allowed to continue its operations. It was also boosted by the Government’s stamp duty holiday, causing new orders for residential homes to increase at their fastest pace for five years.
Over the wider sector, civil engineering has been challenged in 2020 although the fundamentals remain in place: major construction and engineering projects such as HS2, Hinkley Point C, major road schemes, energy decarbonisation, Network Rail’s modernisation, the Thames Tideway Tunnel and others are set to drive output over the next five years.
